There’s a new star in our 5-aside team
He glides with the ball, moves it quickly and gets stuck into a challenge
A valuable player to add to our roster
I’m expecting an uptick in form, a boost in moral
It’s the last game of the season and it’s 3-0 within 10 minutes
This is it! We are entering the realm of elite football. Should we order an official kit now?
2 goals conceded and the mood shifts. There is dissent in camp. We’re trying to keep it compact, to protect the lead.
The Star wants more.
No more square passes! Get it forward!
We’re arguing. We never argue. We understand one another, our roles and what we need to do to win.
But not anymore.
We’re doubting ourselves, our methodology and our place in the Pantheon of 5-aside.
The battle continues, we lose another 2-goal lead and finish the game 5-5.
There is work to be done in the off-season and none of it is with a ball.

The Star needs to be embedded into our culture. He needs to understand and embody our history.
To believe in the Barbarian way.
If he doesn’t, and he continues to push in the opposite direction, it could tear the team apart.
A team gunning for the top can swiftly become a team rotting at the bottom amongst the other nearly-made-its.
Time will tell how this story ends;
Will he follow the path of other talented misfits and be tossed aside in the name of club culture?
Or can he become one of us and will a star be born?
